As you may have heard, all client care representatives will be able to vote by secret ballot to decide if we want to form a union. I’m calling today to let you know that voting starts tomorrow. The vote will be run by an official of the Canada Industrial Relations Board, so the secrecy of your vote is protected by law. No one will ever know how you voted, including your manager.

You can cast your ballot anytime during the voting hours which run from 6:30am to 10 pm tomorrow, Wednesday, Dec. 2 and Thursday, Dec. 3 in the Alexander Graham Bell Room , P2 – South Tower.

As you know we applied for union certification last Tuesday. We have come this far thanks to hundreds of our co-workers. Hundreds of us helped get cards signed, talked to our co-workers, put union posters and flags on our desks and showed that the majority of Bell Mobility employees want a union to give us a voice in the workplace.

We are pleased to announce that on Tuesday, October 27, the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union (CEP) applied to the Canada Industrial Relations Board for union certification on behalf of 1450 Bell Mobility employees in Mississauga.
 

 
“A union is a third party-right?”

  
“Now is the time for us to take control of our working lives!”
 
That’s what Michael Billings thinks. He is a Client Care Representative at the Mississauga Bell Mobility Call Centre. And he’s not alone.
 
Hundreds of his co-workers have signed union cards in the past few of weeks since a spike in interest in forming a union began in early July. Now, he and his fellow organizing committee members can feel the momentum moving the campaign towards success.
 
The Communications, Energy and Paperworkers (CEP) Union has been helping the committee reach out to other workers who may have been scared off by Bell Mobility’s tactics.
 

  
In spite of the company wants you to believe, you’ve probably seen and heard a lot about a union these days. One of the main reasons is that the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) said in June that Bell Mobility must respect workers’ right to choose a union.
  

 
Karen White’s just like you. She works in client care for Bell Aliant, which she has done for over six years. But unlike the Bell Mobility Call Centre in Mississauga, Karen’s workplace is unionized. 

“There are so many benefits of having a union, I don’t know where to start,” says the 31-year-old from Newfoundland. “We get pay progressions every six months until we reach the top of our wage scale, as well as negotiated annual increases. They are all the same, everyone gets them and the manager doesn’t get to play favourites.”

The Canada Industrial Relations Board has issued an Interim Order to ensure that Bell Mobility employees can exercise the right to freely choose to be represented by a union if they desire and to campaign for the union at the workplace during non-working time.
